On Wednesday 18th June 2014, Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce held their annual members Summer Reception at the Safari Lodge, Woburn Safari Park. This was my first event that I attended as an exhibitor.
KITT Consultancy has completed 2 financial years but actually trading full time for just over a year. In April 2014, I needed help with my marketing and engaged Big Idea Marketing to help me. With their help a marketing strategy was put into place, which helped me to focus on the objectives that I needed to meet. One of my objectives was to attend events and even do some exhibitions. The Chamber of Commerce members Summer Reception came along and I decided I would actually be an exhibitor at this event. Without thinking too much, I booked my attendance and also stated that I was going to be an exhibitor at the event and paid up. Once I did that there was no going back. Now was the time to panic!!
Having no marketing skills, working with Big Idea Marketing I’m getting help with promoting the business and me and together a brochure was produced, providing customers with the products and services that KITT Consultancy provides. Prior to this I had created some leaflets but was not really sure if that had any impact, but for an exhibition I needed something that was professional looking. After a number of drafts the content was completed, next stage was getting this printed. With bank balance being low I turned to a colleague from my Business for Breakfast network group to help, JNB Publishing. They were very good and provided me with some sound advice and examples. This helped me to make a decision and place an order, for a sufficient quantities of business cards, the presentation folder and brochure, 2 roll up banners and a table cloth, all consistent with the business branding. JNB’s designer kept in touch with me and checking that the design was to me satisfaction and once I was happy the artwork and content was approved for the print work to commence. All the materials that I needed for the event was turned round in a week and were collected a few days before the event. Although I had a problem with one of the roll up banners, JNB resolved that within a few minutes without any hassle.
Arrived at the Woburn Safari Park just after 4:00 and the sun was shining and the temperature was probably in the low 20s. As I drove along the road I saw some of the wild animals, starting with the bisons, zebras, deers and gazelles all grazing together. Driving through to the leisure area, you could also see the giraffes and I even got a glimpse of a rhino. This took me back to 2001 when we went to Kenya with the children on Safari. After parking the car it was time to unload and set up in the Safari Lodge, it took me 3 trips to empty the car.
Members starting to book in and met up with friends, colleagues, acquaintances, even customers, I was a bit nervous. However, I knew that once someone asked me about what KITT Consultancy does, I would be in my element. KITT Consultancy is all about helping SMEs increase productivity, save time and money through tailored IT training and consultancy. Based in Luton, we work across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, with our clients offering bespoke IT solutions.

During the course of the evening met some wonderful people and discussed how KITT Consultancy could help them with their business. Also asked them to leave their business card behind as part of a business card raffle, where 2 prizes were on offer for free training from KITT Consultancy. The winners of the raffle were 1st prize went to CTP and 2nd prize to LCH.
On the whole the evening went well and I met new people and can only hope that we could be working with each other in the future. Now that I have completed my first exhibition, I don’t think that need to be nervous when I do the next one.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Big Idea Marketing and JNB Publishing for their assistance in making this possible for KITT Consultancy. I would like to thank Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce and Woburn Safari Park for organising the Summer Reception and the great weather.
